Tablet weaving, gardening

Those are my 8 foot tall sugar pea vines.
That is the first blosom presenting.

I am weaving a band on my PVC loom.
The cards at the top are a reed, and the lower cards are the working cards. The section under the pin is all 4F turning.
The section above the pin is a combination of turning.
The pattern was found as part of "gudrum's tabletweaving thingy", a free computer program for tabletweaving patterns.

pin looms

I have been experimenting with pin looms, other wise know as loomette, or weavette. Here are pictures of my results.

The top square is done with 1 strand of size 80 tatting thread. that is about the same diameter as 'quiliting' sewing thread.

The second squre is done with 2 strands. The squares were done with pins pushed into a piece of foam, following the squres on 10sqi graph paper.

This is a diamond shaped loom. It is about 6" long on the longest diagonal.

I used nylon tape yarn. the loose diamond is done on every other peg.

The diamond peg loom is tricky to use, as the ribbon packs very tighlty.

flat fish

I had a sucessfull fishing trip the other day... I caught my fist 'keeper' fish, a flounder. The fish has eyes on the top of the head and blends perfectly with the bottom of the river. After learning to fillet the fish, it tasted wonderful!

catching views and possums

I have been fishing some more, catching only views. Its January in Florida, and you can still see GREEN. (as apposed to snow, ice, white and gray). The tiny white spot in the water under the middle tree is a pelican. The pelicans fly great, but do a nose-plant to land. (its funny to watch.) The raccon trap caught a possum this morning.

first fish, weaving ribbon birds

I have been weaving ribbon birds lately. I am hoping to get enough done for the weaving guilds sale table in November. The ribbon is 2/3" wide and the peices I use are between 10 and 12 inches long.

My other new activity is fishing, not catching. Good way to look at sceenery, watch the birds, and get some sun and fresh air. I did manage to catch one small fish. The knife is about 6" or so long. Its a small fish, and I tossed it back after taking the picture and removing the hook.

racoons

I think racoons are cute.... from a distance. The masked bandits are marauding on MY backporch.... they have the whole backyard to play in... but they want to play with MY birdfood.

So, If said racoon really wants to eat the nice marshmallows in the metal cage, they can have them. But the mashmallow price is a relocation trip into the nearby swamp, (several miles from my house). This is a yearling, and is number 4 this year that has been reloclated.

The metal can behind the save-a-heart trap is the birdfood; and about 3 foot in frount of the racoon is the sliding glass door.

slippers and fish

These are mom's slippers. I knited them flat, then sewed them up (seam on heel and toe) and then felted them smaller around cut to fit insulation board. Mom sent me foot tracing so I could get correct size. The slippers are waiting for an application of the plastic-dip for the sole to make them more water-proof and anti-slip.

These are gold fish. I started by thowing 20 or so 'feeder' fish in the pond. they grew big. (start at 1" long, now about 7" to 8"long) It is hard to see in the picture, but the red fish are the same color as the 'red-orange' crayloa crayons. It interesting to watch the fins on the fishes, some fins are white, some fins are orange, some are small, some are 'fan' shaped. I have been feeding the fish a handfull of pellets every moring, now the fish think that anytime some-one stands by the pond they will get fed.
